Where You Can Get Help If You're Currently A Victim Of Domestic Violence In UK
Apr 21, 2021Between March and June, 2020 reports of domestic abuse incidents rose in England and Wales by 7% (20% of all recorded crimes during that period).
IN THESE UNPRECEDENTED TIMES, INCIDENCES OF RELATIONSHIP AND DOMESTIC ABUSE ARE RISING SHARPLY. ABUSERS KNOW THAT IT'S HARDER TO DETECT ABUSE BEHIND CLOSED DOORS AND THAT THEIR VICTIMS ARE MORE ISOLATED DURING LOCKDOWN.
Domestic abuse is not 'just another domestic' or 'none of anyone's business. It's serious, it's a crime and it's everyone's business. Similarly, verbal and emotional abuse is not just someone's partner being 'mean' to them. This kind of abuse is often accompanied by extreme control, isolation from friends and family, and financial abuse. Abuse never ever diminishes - it only ever always escalates and non-violent abuse can very quickly become violent and potentially homicidal the longer it continues.
Under the 'UK Says No More' campaign, there are certain companies that are operating safe spaces to which abuse survivors can go:
Boots
Sainsbury's
Morrisons
Go to the pharmacy area of the store to ask for help. You can use the consultancy rooms to speak to someone, use the phone, or wait for help.
ALSO, you can go to ANY pharmacy, Well Pharmacy, or Superdrug store.
You can also travel, with any rail company, for free if you are fleeing abuse under the 'Rail to Refuge' scheme - which is allowable under covid restrictions.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to a friend if you're concerned. You can also ring the police as a concerned party. Please don't hesitate to call the police if you witness or hear incidents of abuse. You are not being a 'nosy neighbour' and you could save someone's life!
You won't always get a 'thank you' from the survivor (sometimes you will get the complete opposite) but you will have planted the seeds for that survivor to know they have support, to get help, and to think about leaving.
Did you know that it takes, on average, an abuse survivor 7 attempts to leave before they leave the relationship successfully?
I AM APPEALING TO YOU THAT IF YOU KNOW OF ANYONE WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM BEING IN A SAFE SPACE TO RECEIVE SUPPORT AND INFORMATION THEN PLEASE POINT THEM TOWARDS THIS GROUP.
As you will know, I am a trained Domestic Violence Champion (UK) and am up-to-date with the latest covid awareness training.
Please also, look in the files section of the group, for a comprehensive list of charities, organisations and legal organisations that can offer you support and advice. There is also a men's helpline included on this list as well as LGBT organisations.
Let's make sure every victim has the chance to become a survivor.
If you're currently suffering the effects of narcissistic abuse or are currently in a toxic relationship and don't know what your next steps are - know that you don't have to do this alone. Book a complimentary session with me and let's discuss how I can help you recover and find freedom again.
